Welcome back to a new school year! Whether you are a returning family or a new family to Prairie Wind, we are looking forward to an exciting school year with you all. This year looks to be one of the best years yet. I am excited to head into year four as your principal. Our enrollment this year is hovering at around 300 students. Our school makeup will consist of 2 sections of Kindergarten and 3 sections in each of the remaining grades (1st-4th). While we said goodbye to some familiar faces at P-Dub last year, I am over the moon excited about the returning and new staff coming to the school in 25-26. We have created a staff of the most competent, experienced and caring educators in the business. Your children will be in great hands this school year.
This year will bring a few changes. The first is a fun one. The 4th grade Legacy Project from last year has been installed. When you walk inside of Prairie Wind, you will be greeted by our very own Cheyenne 8-foot-tall boot that was designed by our students and made a reality by local artist Chad Blakely. We look forward to sharing this picture backdrop with you all at Open House and throughout the year during award ceremonies.
The next couple of changes have to do with protecting the instructional day and school safety. You may have heard recently, but we will be sharing an updated electronic device agreement with you. The district goal is to limit distractions in the classroom throughout the school day. I appreciate your support in pre-teaching your students ahead of the first day of school.
The second update is that before and after school the playground will no longer be open to visitors. This is to protect and provide better supervision to the students we are serving. Once all students are cleared from the playground at about 4pm, the playground will be open for public use. Thank you in advance for adhering to this new change.
The final update is that our 2nd grade classrooms have moved down the hall from their original location. We will now have a K-1 wing, a 2-3 wing and downstairs will be a 4-Summit Academy wing.
Please remember that official communication will be shared through the ParentSquare app and our school website. We are looking forward to seeing you at our Open House on August 22nd from 8-9 am. At 8 am there will be a brief principal welcome in the gym and at 8:15 we will dismiss everyone to go meet their teachers. (You will be notified by your assigned teacher prior to Open House when teachers report back on contract).
Let’s make this an amazing year together!
